The Fundraiser Night

We had our fundraiser last Thursday at the BX Arts Club in Belfast. There was the usual nerves while we waited for people to arrive. After all, it was a 'school night'. In the end we had a fantastic turnout. The BBQ, organised by Sean, went down a treat and the only awkward moment was when the tail end of Hurrincane Gordon nearly took the BBQ awning on a trip skywards!

The entertainment worked out brilliantly too. Dr James Uhomoibhi dropped in (he organises the Africa Centre in Belfast and is a lecturer at the University of Ulster) to see us. The band had already set up so he took the opportunity to sing us a few songs such as The Rivers of Babylon and Stand By Me. James has an excellent voice and he could have sung longer as the crowd were loving it.

Next up were The Audibles, a young Belfast band's very first gig. They got a great reception and we were all well impressed with the standard of playing and singing. They also got a few tips from Terri Hooley!

Our main DJ of the night, Marc Harvey, did a sterling job as the crowd showed no signs of having an early night. Terri did a stint of picking the records for Harvey to put on and soon we were all boiling hot and puffed out from strutting our stuff.

The main object of course was to raise money and this we did. Louise and Marty have some funds for MENCAP and the Percy Mdala School will benefit too. The Ballet went really well and the BX Arts Club Organisers donated the cost of the BBQ supplies, unexpected but really welcome.

The night went on long into the next day but luckily most of the 'workers' had had the foresight to take the next day off as leave.....
