Internet Up and Running at the School

Hello all

A small delay in getting back to you. We finally got our internet connection back at Percy Mdala last week. Hurrah! So on Thursday I came in all enthused and ready to really get stuck in. But things did not quite run according to plan. The school was closed early on both Thursday and Friday due to the water supply having been cut off. No one quite knew why and the department involved wasn't any real help but there it was. You couldn't really have 1200 students in the school all day and no running water or flushing toilets.

Today I had both 8A and 8B in class and we were able to go through a few of the PowerPoint presentations that the students did at St Dominic's last summer. We ran out of time so will be concentrating on them again next lesson. This time 8B answered the questions sent by St Dominic's so I will be sending in their version presently. The students here are very keen to hear from the Belfast learners and Mr Scott of St Dominic's is going to get photos of his class sent to me.

So far the students here have STILL not seen the BBC website. Hopefully this will be rectified by the end of the week.

This afternoon I am going to go to the Soup Kitchen. It is run by Benji who used to be on the streets himself as a child and now provides one main meal a day for children who need it. My other house mates have been before but it is my first time. Apparently the kids are very keen to plait our hair. They may have a job with mine as it is quite short but I shall report back.

I am attaching a photo of some of the students that I am doing the project with. Hope you enjoy!
